Writer's Block: A Posthumous Oscar for Joker?

Do you think Heath Ledger deserves the Oscar for his role in the Dark Knight?
OMG don't even get me started.

not just because he's dead, don't give me that bull.  how could anyone say his role was bad?  he did some serious method acting and the outcome was positively enthralling and engrossing.  i don't know if i could have asked for a better joker for that movie.  nor do i deserve one.  his role was perfect for the dark knight.  maybe not for batman, or batman forever, but definitely for dark knight.  gotham had gone down the drain, letting the villains breed and become stronger.  the joker was the epitome of gotham's fears and was a good example of a villain that actually had somewhat of a purpose.  nolan's gotham is a dark and dreary one, and the joker was there to up the criminal ante.

the first time i saw it (midnight premiere!) i looked forward to every joker scene to be honest.  i wanted to see his acting at work, to see if the hype was real.  and it was, it was almost palpable.  i'm sure i'm not the only person who feels that way, and since more than one person feels that way, heath's job was well done.

seeing the joker was so mesmerising, really.  especially in the scene when he was hanging out of the police car.  it was strangely heartbreaking and i was completely astounded by that part.  it was a short, but very necessary scene that contributed to the joker's character of madness and instability.

a lot of the things he said made so much sense, really.  especially during the hospital scene.  and as harvey said, he's just a mad dog.  the joker did not create himself entirely.  he has a back story as to why he is so messed up and is a criminal, which i would assume to be a compelling one.  how can you not be interested in a villain such as heath's joker?  heath gave him so many dimensions that (at least to me) i almost felt sorry for the joker at times.  watching him just go completely insane was a very heavy thing to watch, but it was important to the character and the plot.

if heath doesn't get a posthumous oscar, i'll be one angry girl.  and heath will be rolling in his grave.  RIP dude<3
